Aberlour Warehouse No 1 – cask no 6524, dist. 1989, 58.4%

“Filled into cask 26.05.1989″, bottled by me September 2002.

Colour: Dark, looks like dark sherry.

Nose: Tar, wood (sauna), very obvious sherry influence, spices (cloves and ginger), orange and orange peel. With water I get something more vegetational, woody, juniper-like.

Palate: Spices and railway sleepers. Easily drinkable at 58.4 %, but I know from experience that it takes a fair amount of water, and wanting to make it last for as long as possible I add a splash. The water brings out bitter orange, sherry, dark chocolate and a fireplace fire.

Comments: A whisky that first and foremost smells and tastes a lot. Decidedly a dessert whisky, that is, not a whisky to drink with the dessert, but one to drink in place of dessert.

Score: 9 out of 10
