Laphroaig 12 yo 50% (D. Laing Old Malt Cask) May 1991 – Sept. 2003, DL ref 871

Nose: Mild (for a Laphroaig) smoke, nutty, water softens the smoke further and reveals banana.

Palate: Smoke, quite significant alchohol sting for  50%, more smoke emerges with water.

Comments: Not the most complex of drams, even for a Laphroaig, but quite definitely Good.

Score: 7 out of 10

I revisited my half-full 5 cl sample bottle of this after a few months, and the alchohol stingwas gone and at full strength it was now quite lovely with a smoky sweetness on the palate. Still not particularly complex, but worth at least 7.5 out of 10.

Laphroaig 12 yo 50 % Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask
