Brora 23 yo, Dun Bheagan, 1981-2005, Refill Sherry Butt 48%, Cask no. 1512

Nose: A little cloying, hint of banana, fruit – a little tart and a little sweet – Haribo paches, vanilla. More fruit with water.

Palate: Some spices, sweetness, chemicals. It reminds me of some sort of medicine where the taste has been attempted to be disguised with fruit flavour without it being wholly successful. The whisky is quite oily, but in this case it’s negative, as what remains clinging to the inside of your mouth is the unpleasant part of the taste. And with water it just gets worse.

Comments: A disappointment, even if we were warned. We were given samples of this and a Brora 30 yo OB by Morten and he clearly stated that this was the “interesting” one in contrast with the other one which was the “good” one. Not a hight scorer, I’d have to be pretty desperate to have another dram of this, even if it were the only whisky (or alchohol) available.

Score: 2 out of 10
