About

I’ve been drinking scotch single malt whisky for almost ten years, and been a fan of eating and drinking things that are good for a lot longer (though my idea of what is good and what isn’t has changed over the years). I am the webadmin for NMWL and write a lot of tasting notes in the NMWL forums, but have felt the need for a place to keep my own notes collected and also to intersperse them with tasting notes for things other than whisky for a while.

When it comes to cooking I tend to be somewhat scatterbrained and slapdash, and though I enjoy trying new recipes, I have a tendency to forget to plan for it, thus I’m always missing cruicial ingredients and frequently decide to just fall back on a tried and tested recipe where at least I know what can be substituted without creating a disaster. I am, however, trying to get better, and with the arrival of a Bosch MUM6 for Christmas I am at least getting into gear with baking. Whether I can follow up or not only time will tell. In any case, it will be useful to collect links to recipes I do get around to trying as well as notes on what worked and what didn’t (and which ingredients I had to leave out or substitute due to bad planning) in one place. I will also publish any recipes I feel are “mine”, in that I’ve made them up from scratch or altered them enough to make them sustantially different from my sources’.

To read a little about what I get up to that does not involve drink or food, visit my other blog. I also blog about the books I read.
